Just in case anyone still hangs around here, is there any particular reason why the map screen is bugged and grey when creating a new mission? Occasionally the editors I use will work perfectly fine, but sometimes the screen will just be grey, and the initial scroll start and level info icons will duplicate graphically if I scroll the map around a bit.

I know that. The editor is written in C++, use MFC.
It uses GDI to render the map, and, the algorithm is using one HBITMAP to store the picture data of the whole map, that means, it needs lots of RAM to show the map.

To let it work fine, adjust the scaling to 50% or 25%, make it smaller. That could work.

Note you don't need to change the real size of the map. Just zoom out.
