The way I understand it, S&P is The Standard & Poor 500, which is 500 companies in a small stock market. Kinda like the Dow Jones, or NASDAQ. No, not knowing this is not a lapse in your education. Living in any country other than the US, you would have absolutely no use for this bit of information, unless of course you trade stocks. Which I don't, but maybe some day I will. Ahhh, dreams....
